Leadership

  • Pastor Bryan Hochhalter

Pastor Bryan is originally from the Pacific Northwest.  He was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ as his personal savior at the age of seven, during a worship service at his local church.  He had a definite call to full-time ministry while a teenager.

Bryan received a B.A. degree in Philosophy and Religion from Northwest Nazarene University and his Masters of Divinity degree from the Nazarene Theological Seminary.  Following seminary, Bryan served as an associate pastor and senior pastor in California, prior to serving 25 years as an active duty United States Air Force Chaplain.  Bryan’s service in a multi-faith military setting took him to assignments in Portugal, England, Korea and several states, including Montana, Mississippi, New Mexico, South Carolina (USAF Chaplain Corps College), and Colorado (USAF Academy), in addition to numerous deployments.  Bryan has a deep passion for the Bible, God’s Word, and wants others to experience the joy and hope that only comes through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Bryan has a big heart for others and is known for his servant-leadership and for caring like a shepherd.  Bryan and his wife, Karen, have spent a lot of time in Grand Lake over the past thirty years and are glad to now call it home.  They are excited to serve the Community Church of the Rockies along with the wonderful people of this church body.  Bryan and Karen have four adult children, Anna in Washington, Andrew and his wife, Caroline and their two sons in British Columbia, Canada, Benjamin and Alyssa in Colorado.  Their four children, daughter-in-law and two grandsons bring a lot of laughter and happiness into their lives.

“I am grateful to be a part of what God is doing through the Community Church of the Rockies.  I pray that our faith community will be a place where people discover the life-giving relationship found only in Christ, learn how they can grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ through Bible-centered preaching and teaching and faithfully engage their faith within the Grand Lake community, supporting both local and worldwide ministries.”

  • Wes House, Elder

Wes House and his wife Marcia have made Grand Lake their home for the past 25 years.  They own and operate Winding River Resort, a camping and lodging resort, located three miles northwest of Grand Lake,  They have five adult children, fourteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.  Wes grew up in northern Illinois on a dairy farm and graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Agriculture.  He has owned and operated several businesses, including a real estate brokerage specializing in RV and camping properties.

"It is exciting to be a part of a growing Christian fellowship based on God's Word."

  • Brian Reynolds, Chairman of the Board of Elders

Brian Reynolds and his wife Gretchen have lived in the Grand Lake area over 25 years.  They raised their son, Jordan, here in Grand Lake.  They have two beautiful grandchildren, Aubrey and Weston who bring enormous joy into their lives.

Brian and Gretchen met at Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University).  Brian earned an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and a graduate degree in Educational Leadership. They were asked by Gretchen’s parents if they would like to join the family business soon after they were married and decided to make the change.  Twenty five years later the city boy and the ranch girl decided the ranch life was the best choice.  After owning a snowmobile and ATV shop and working in real estate, Brian is currently a Laboratory Technician at Henderson Mill, while Gretchen is a Work Order Accountant at Mountain Parks Electric.

“We found a wonderful group of people at CCoR and we are excited to see and feel the energy and love not found in all congregations. We are truly blessed to have discovered a church that uses God’s Word to encourage, teach and share the gospel.  I look forward to seeing  the growth of the church and the positive impact we will have on the Grand Lake community for God’s purpose.”

  • Chas Cowles, Elder

Chas Cowles started visiting the Grand Lake area as a child with his family in 1961.  Chas and Cheryl met at Wheat Ridge High School when they were sophomores.  They were married after his sophomore year at Colorado State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.  Chas and Cheryl bought their current home in 1978 bc (before children).  They raised their now three grown children in the Arvada-Golden area and in their north Lake Granby home on weekends.

Chas worked in commercial real estate, development and construction in the front range and Denver metro area from 1977-2012.  Since, he has been semi-retired handling some partnerships that he is involved in.  Cheryl just retired from teaching three to five-year-olds since 1980, which has allowed them to go from 3-4 days per week to finally full time residents.

"Since coming to Jesus Christ, with the wonderful influence of Cheryl, my three children, and the prayers of Ben and Lillian (Cheryl’s parents), we both wanted a church where we could be active members and the church was an active member of the community.  We were welcomed like family on our first visit and the feeling of love from everyone ended our search.  Our hope is to do our part for God’s will in CCR, having a positive impact in our community."

  • Marty Jacob, Elder & Worship Leader

Marty and his wife Hollis retired from teaching in 2019 after buying their Grand Lake “forever cabin” in March of the previous year.

Marty grew up in the Pacific Northwest and attended Oregon State University to study engineering and after a year, ended up in the music education department and the arms of Hollis, best year ever!

They were married and then blessed with two sons, Nathan and Ryan, and later  a wonderful daughter in law and two beautiful grand-daughters.

Marty taught choral music in Washington State, Kansas and Colorado ending up in Denver.

His faith journey saw regular church and Sunday school attendance since birth, salvation as a junior in high school and a nominal Christian for many years only to have Christ Jesus reveal Himself and explode upon his life.  Jesus truly is now his Lord, Savior and his life!

As an elder, he prays that God would speak His love, grace and forgiveness through him; a broken, yet restored man in Christ and that others would see God’s love in him.

“Yet not I but through Christ in me. By the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain”” 1 Corinthians 15:10a

  • Don Ray, Elder

Don met Linda in the mid 1960’s at a small Assembly of God Church in Westminster, CO. They married in 1969 and Don went to Vietnam in 1972. What seemed like a disaster was God’s hand directing their lives. During that year apart they learned to lean on Jesus for everything.

They have 3 wonderful children that grew up in the north suburbs of Denver Colorado, settling in Wheat Ridge in 1982. They still own a home there where their youngest daughter lives.

As members of the Arvada Assembly of God church for nearly 35 years they were involved in nearly every ministry in the church at one time or another. In 2010 they felt God releasing them to serve in a new church focusing on the next generation called Red Rocks Church in Golden Colorado, at a dilapidated theme park (Heritage Square). They helped with several of the ministries there for 10 years before COVID, then attended online, and eventually moved to Grand Lake in 2020 where their oldest daughter’s family was.

When they decided it was a permanent move, they planned to visit area churches to find where they could serve. Community Church of the Rockies was the 1st on their list and after the 1st visit, God directed them to stay, get involved, and join the church.

We’ve loved the people in this community of believers from the outset, and still do! It is so exciting to be a part of God’s plan in Grand Lake.
